Not T25 but T4 question.

Post by Bluebusbuilder »

I have been offered a Kreg T4 caravelle with a 2.4 diesel engine fitted.
Anyone know what these go like and what mpg to expect?.
And it,s a non turbo diesel.
My other car only has two wheels.

Thanks for the replies. Think i will take a test drive.
If it's no good i will look for a T25 caravelle or a tdi T4.

My 2.4D T4 Karmann Gipsy is no ball of fire, but not that slow either. Depends what you want really-my fuel consumption isnt too bad, despite the heavy coachbuilt body. It is slow uphill, and many gearchanges are needed to keep it going, but VW quoted top speed for the 2.4 van was only 84mph ! Solutions are:
Buy the 2.4 and have it turbo'd/intercooled for £2400
Buy a later 2.5 TDi which as much power but is also much more expensive!!
:D
Kind regards

John

I seem to have seen lots of T4 vans advertised with blown 2.4 engines...

Looking at that site, I'll stick with my trusted T3, what a rip the dealers charge just because it's 'modern'.
A T3 Turbo will bowl along nicely at the legal limit, cost £120 for a cambelt change, pulley won't disintegrate and do 38mpg, and is bigger inside, and is cheaper, and you can mend it anyway yourself
Every new van is harder to mend at home, gawd knows what a T5 is like
