Halfords thermostats - OK or not worth the bother ?

Post by syncroandy »

Halfords have 2.1 waterboxer thermostats on offer a.t.m. for less than 3 quid. It happens mine needs replacing so I'm tempted.

However I've heard that off-brand thermostats can be dodgy. Anyone got any views on this ?

There is a question of a small bypass hole apparantly, I've never noticed, but have fitted both GSF's and VAG's - the GSF failed in less than 12 months, but it was in the mustardpot so you know the history. If you get a halfwits one grab me one for spare as I used my last one.

I bought a thermostat from Halfwits for a polo.
It came complete with the wrong sealing ring.
