Tyre Pressures

Can any one answer this please? Is an 8PR rated tyre designed to take more air pressure than a 6PR rated tyre of the same size?

My vans got a set of 4 x 185 14R 8PR D rated tyres. I've got 45psi at the rear, and 38 psi at the front. The van is used daily(ish) and is only parcially loaded, i.e. just the interior fittings it came with; no other added weight.

Cheers

Yes they can as an 8 PR can carry a heavier load which needs more air pressure. But the tyre pressures you use are the still ones recommended for the van as that corresponds to the weight the tyres are loaded to on that application.

Thanks for your reply. On the plate in the van there is no pressures given for 8PR rated tyres. A friend of mine has 45psi all way round in his T25; he said this was a suggestion from a member on the 80-90 forum

Just use the recommended tyre pressures for that size of tyre 38 psi front 47 psi rear or if you are lightly loaded use the ambulance pressures 35 psi all round.
