Storing the Spare

Post by roj62 »

Hi

The garage that normally services our van forgot to put the spare back in place after fixing the throttle cable - I borrowed a spare from a local garage but went to store it in its place under the front - Is there something that sure secure it? There is just the large round plate that opens up on a spring catch and that is all - I guess there must be some sort of mounting bracket but I don't see it. Any ideas?

Hello,

you should have a bolt which secures the plate up as well as the spring catch. The catch is useful as it holds the plate up temporarily while you're fiddling about getting the bolt lined up and the socket ready....

I personally wouldn't trust just the spring catch. Someone might be able to tell you the bolt size - rough guess I'd say an M10 but I'm not sure.

Hello again,

I see you're in Edinburgh - if you want I could try and match my bolt on the way home today or tomorrow and get it to you.... that is if you're definitely missing the bolt!

Nice one Fin saves me getting mine off in the snow! Got the washer - do you know how long it is?

Cheers chaps

The spare is wrapped in a big bin bag and in the boot where it will stay till after we get back from our Christmas break - I'll be able to get my spare back in the new year and presumably the errant bolt!

Dunno it's no longer than 25mm
Took it out last night as I'm using this rubbish weather as an excuse to refurb my Deep steels that are kerbed and rusty
