brms and lowering

Have recently lowered my van 60mm and gone for 15 in Brms with 185, 15 inch vanco continental commercially rated tyres!! Looks great.

Went for a spin last night and got flashed by an AA van as he thought the rear wheels were coming off. Checked the torques all fine, however the rear wheels have got extreme excessive play which looks from top to bottom and makes thw wheels look completely warped, jacked rear up and tried to move the wheel - no play?

Really confused as VW Heritage assured me these wheels fit straight onto a t25, clearly they don't!!, really annoyed as just want to go camping and due to works the van has been off the road for the last 4 weekends

New radiator, thermostat and coolant change,
new lowering kit, shocks & springs,
Replaced all fuel lines & checked tank
Changed anti rollbar bushes all

Just want to go camping, can anyone explain why the rear wheels look like their about to fly off?

And no sarcastic comments please!! I like the BRM's think they look great and had already splashed out £400 on them before everyone started saying they are crap!

There's a couple of bolts to take off the rear drums when fitting aftermarket wheels without the recesses for them to fit in. If you've left them in it will mean the wheels won't fit flush.

This basic info should be in the wheel section of the wiki. Unfortunately a lot of "specialists" say that things will fit, when the truth of it is they will only do so with further work.
Wheel swaps are the most common modification and quite possibly the least well understood. Doing your homework is essential if you want to avoid a really nasty accident that your insurers won't entertain.
P.S. Didn't your wonky wheels shake the bus like a spin cycle? (ask a bored housewife)

thanks for the replies I will check that bolts are removed, also the van didn't shake at all bizarrely, it drives extremely well, one owner and only 70K since new, and it didn't feel any different.

is it the negative camber that you get when you lower the van that is worrying you, ie the wheels stick out a bit at the bottom?
did you do the suspension work yourself? if not take it back to the garage that did it for you and have them check it., if you did it then make sure to set the tracking and camber, if you do not you will wear your tyres away at an alarming rate and your bus will be a danger to yourself and everybody around you. also your wheels are the wrong offset, these guys have been told before but continue to sell them.

hi i also fitted 15 inch brm,s and went up the road for spin and got flagged down by a passing motorist telling me my rear wheels were falling off. i worked it out about the drum bolts but i think there should be more info about this issue. once sosted i am well chuffed with them.

"NB. Warning... When fitting alternative wheels at the rear, please note that unless they are recessed for the two small drum locating set screws, then they will need to be removed so the wheel can be pulled up flush and flat to the drum surface. "

and in a lot of posts aout how to fit / will these fit etc.. It should be apparent when you try and the wheels though, I would have thought to be honest



It's more of a problem that so called "specialists" list non suitable wheels as "bolt on replacements" for these vans
