Soft brake pedal with long travel

Post by ricp »

My T25 has suddenly developed a very soft brake pedal with much longer travel. No visible leaks as master cylinder or caliper end and the fluid level is OK. Thought it might be the servo but this would lead to a much harder pedal. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Also check automatic adjuster rods between rear shoes. If one has broken it could give excess travel on the pedal (and handbrake lever too).

Air in the system is the obvious one, followed by a faulty master cylinder where one of the seals in the tandom (dual line) is failing.
Does the pedal creep under pressure (find a point then move slowly downwards)

Yes, exactly that. Now believe that it is a failing Master cylinder. If you quickly press hard you get good but slowly falling pressure. If you press gently, the pedal will sink immediately as the fluid leaks. This also expalins the lack of a visible leak.

Well certainly sounds like the master cylinder but before you rite it off bleed the brakes just to be sure the cause isn't air in the system.

if it drops only when driven is possible a front wheel bearing.
