205/70 R14's are standard optional and about as wide as you would want to go on those very narrow rims....different story if you had different rims.

205's are OK or 215's 70 X 14 (and that's pushing it)
it will alter the gearing, so you'll have to change up sooner on hills.

When you say change up do you mean i'll be in top gear earlier ? will my it make it slower top end ?

Overall, the 205/70/14 is actually a bit smaller than the 185/80/14, so you needn't worry about gearing.

What you need to worry about is that 205/70/14 tyres are bloody hard to get at times  (at least with a decent load index)

Stock tires were 185/82r14, but most replacements are now 185/80r14. 185/70 is much smaller.

The difference between a 185 70 and a 205 70 is +33 mm on the overall circumference, giving the tyre an increase of 5 1/2 per cent

so the gearing will be different... almost back to spec as you say.

I doubt that you would notice it

Does anyone make wider steel rims for these vans ?

As for 205/70 14's being harder to get hold of with 60 bhp on tap they'll perish before i wear em out :rofl

My van came with 215/82/14 commercials fitted to the standard steel rims. Seems to be ok although I'm swapping them out for some alloys this week.
