Spare Wheel Storage
I have just had my van converted to LPG, the gas tank is fitted where the spare wheel used to be kept, I now have the problem of where best to carry the wheel. I have been told that I should fit a swing out arm at the rear end, but this will cost between £6oo/£800 which I can't afford.
I have also been told that the T2 spare wheel mounting bracket, as sold by justkampers, cannot be used on my rear door as there is not enough support behind the panel to support the vibration caused when the van is moving.
Has anyone else had this problem? If so what was your solution?

Re: Spare Wheel Storage
You don't say if your van is aircold or not ... if it is why not do as the Bays do and mount it on the front.

Heck paid less than that for whole camper. Nice idea though, being able to swing it out the way like that.

Re: Spare Wheel Storage
nice paint job...!
Could the spare go inside the back? Saw a pic of someone that had a lpg tank in the wardrobe area of a caper so assume you could maybe create some sort of attachment for a wheel holder there too...?

Re: Spare Wheel Storage
One of the reasons why I feel the lpg tank mounted in the spare wheel holder isnt such a good idea..
I bet you fitted the tank in there coz you didnt want to lose space inside... so where did you think the spare was going to go if you cant afford the rear carrier and its not such a brill idea to hang it on the front.. looks like its going... oh.... inside.... or buy a couple of cans of "tyreweld" and store the spare in the garage.... as per "new cars" and any "normal" car converted to LPG..........

Re: Spare Wheel Storage
john boy.
would it be possible to make an adaptor to fit to the back door.
obviosly it would be fixed in position/like gunslingers, but i would think it would look ok and cost far less than 700 pounds.
not sure if this is feasable/some will say /no/--its just an idea i looked at the other day.would panel take weight/will gas struts hold it???? etc./etc/etc.
there is always an engineering way out of things.
i could prob machine parts for you f.o.c and can use my wheel details for flange.
all from stainless steel.
any other ideas let me know

I'm soon to have the same problem and I thought about just carrying tyreweld.
Question is, does this stuff actually work? Has anyone out there ever used it?

Re: Spare Wheel Storage
I'd hate to be stuck out on the yorkshire moors, kids on board, all their gear, faces pressed against the windows while you're outside in driving rain, and just tyreweld to rely on
This is why I hunted high and low for an LPG tank for under the back seat. Only other way is against one window above the engine and remove when camped, chained to underneath - stops theives and you won't drive off without it more than once.

Re: Spare Wheel Storage
well don't worry about carrying a spare, thats old hat, some car manufacturers don't put spares in the cars, its been replaced with a tin of tyre weld/inflate. couldn't believe it at first
