building a carrier that goes on to the back bumper irons and hinges down so virtually all the weight is taken on the bumper irons and just a latch onto the tailgate would be easiest and strongest for self build.
The one tmt was referring to was on Mudlarks old Autosleeper Syncro, was made out of stainless and worked fine, even off road, but obviously the wheel has to be above the number plate by a bit so quite tall thing to make. It was also easily removeable via some spring latch pins so you could take it out of way when working on engine etc...
