Hi All,have a set of multivan alloys(genuine Dub)with 205/70/14s on.
Anyone have an idea it will decrease MPG any further on my DG petrol which is running steelies with 185 R14 commercials at the moment?.
Do the commercial tyres fit on or can anyone say if they have a smaller tyre fitment, say a 195/70 maybe on theirs?.
Cheers All

Re: Tyres on Multivan Alloys
I've run on Multivan alloys with both 185R14 Maxxis Light Truck tyres (very good high mileage tyres..) and 215R14 Transspeeds as "summer tyres" and to be honest the MPG seemed a little better on the larger tyres. I'm now running on 195R15 Marshall AT on steelies (slightly smaller rolling radius than the 215r14) and the MPG seems to have improved again, so I guess I've hit a lucky combination.
The 205/70/14 you have on your alloys are about 3cm less rolling radius than your 185r14 so my gues is it will probably make your MPG a bit worse. Swap em over and have a go is the only way to know for certain though (and they will look the part )
Be sure to check the load rating and the age of the 205s though..
There's a good visual tyre size calculator here http://www.kouki.co.uk/utilities/visual ... calculator

Re: Tyres on Multivan Alloys
185R14C are fine on a 6J (6inch wide rim) like the carat/multivan wheels, the 205/70R14's you have on them should be 6 ply 97 load rating reinforced like the semperits i just replaced on 2 of my alloys, they are std vw recommended tyres on carats, so not an innadequate 'car' type tyre, genuine manual recommends 205/70R14 reinforced. i switched to 185R14C's (C for commercial) and to be honest have noticed bugger all difference in speedo reading for the same given revs (both sizes give 60mph at 3000rpm in 5th) so dont think the size difference is enough to worry about. the different rolling rad between a brand new tyre and one with 2mm of tread is more than the the difference between the two sizes, so not really enough to worry about i wouldn't think, the 185's lighten the steering effort needed noticably compared to 205's too.

Nice one lads,I'll go and check the load rating on the tyres, hope they're ok as two of the tyres are brand new!
