A 205 width on a Carat rim fits in my spare wheel carrier under the front end just fine. i too had trouble finding 'good brand' 205/70/14 C rated tyres for mine, so i fitted 195/75/14C Continental Vanco's to my carat rims, which are within 1.5% if you check it out on a tyre calculator website, great tyres, improved the handling, much better ride quality and steering than the Semperit 205/70R14's that were on it, the Vanco's are 8 ply, the old Semperit's were 6 ply. think they were around 60 quid each from E-Tyres.

Final update I think!
Have found Firestone Vanhawks 185R14C 102/100r 8 ply for £203 fitted balanced etc.
Continentals Vancos at fitted £235.
Michelins Agilias at £285.
Has anyone out there run Firestones?
Thanks again
John :ok

Thats what I have access to and the price inc. VAT, obviously theres some 80-90 discount to come off that.
All to order.
Just looking around on't t'interweb it's a bit of a minefield, I appreciate that my wholesaler probably isn't the cheapest, and there is only a modest amount on there, any less and they really aren't worth doing.
I've bought the tyre machine and balancer and that just to keep the tyre side of things in house, I hate paying for tyres, they seem so expensive, and I've had so many bad puncture repairs done in the past by others it really annoys me, so I've invested to do the job right.

Hi Simon,
Those are pretty good prices and I would use you if I was nearer!
As you say you can go round and round on T`intraweb and some companies quote low prices and then when you order surprise surprise the tyres are "special orders" requiring an additional ordering fee! I give an additional ordering tip back and it begins with F and ends in off!
Thanks to all for the very valued input.
I will go back to sleep now until another problem arises needing the awesome might that is club 80-90.
Firestone Vanhawks or Continentals it will be in 185 diameter.
p.s I might have not been trying hard enough but 205 on carat alloy would not fit in my spare wheel carrier.Could it be that my van is an early one 1981 and if you selected factory alloys as an option the factory fitted a different carrier/locking bolt/catch?
Best Regards
John

I think you mean 14 inches diameter. 185 is the width of the tyre. :)

The Continentals are the better of the two you have chosen.
205's are only 2cm wider so there really shouldn't be any problem fitting one as a spare.
If you had been anywhere close to Nottingham I could have fitted these for free. My contribution towards recent 80-90 Express use.

Thanks for kind offer,
Have gone for Continentals.£205 for four fitted, balanced etc etc.
The tyre supplier did confirm that 205/14 tyres are becoming hard to find. Not much demand now apparently.Tis only us lot and a few old transits that use this diameter anymore.
Best Regards

Models with factory fitted alloys had a deeper spare wheel carrier. Even with 185's I can only just manage to engage the safety catch.

So I was not going mad then!!!
I subjected the kids to 10 minutes of bad language too their great delight as they watched me struggle.Still they loved running off to Mummy shouting "Daddy said some rude words"
Sticking with 185`s and thats that! :run
