Going to have another look at the wheel centring again tomorrow. Which I should be able to sort now I know what to look for.
Just wanted to ask about those off-centre washers at the top of suspension. How hard/big a job is it the check they are aligned correctly? How do I do that, Oh Oracles!

If your camber is correct then they are aligned correctly.

No, Earlier someone said that they can be put back/fitted wrong. Kinda opposite to each other.

In theory, yes, in practice would be rare I think...

The Wiki now has a complete table of specs. + notes on setting up alignments, thanks to Be**ly and contributors here..

Infact the method described is not far off apart from the Camber is actually;
0°±30' so zero or straight up vertical is spot on. Pretty helpful becuse you just centralize the bubble.
The three critical things are; the vehicle MUST be on completely flat gound
The steering wheel MUST be pointing the wheels straight ahead .
The spirit level effectively needs to be taking the reading from the metal inner rim exactly in the same place top and bottom.
Also the vehicle needs rolling backwards and forwards between each adjustment to settle the wheels and suspension.
And that piece of wood you are using better be completely parallel, not even 1mm thicker one end!

Lift up the wishbone to its highest before the top ball joint is fitted.You can then see the concentric washers in place .Can some one confirm that the largest part of the washer faces down .

I've really enjoyed reading your posts on allignment. I was even inspired to try. Well more me a desperation really as I couldn't even find a garage that seemed well equiped to do the job and I had uneven wear. The Van (81 diesel) now feels lighter, sits as well as you would expect for the road condition... but I realized as I was running out of time that despite doing the changes at .25 turns as recommended I have managed to go off centre on the rack about 5 degrees. Do I do it again? Can I live with it just watching the tread pattern? All advice welcome as I have a few long trips coming up and I'd like not to wreck my tyres on the way. Thanks in advance.
