will 225 tyres be ok for clearance?

Post by dridgy »

Im going to put on some merc Ml wheels on my van.
im about to order the tyres.
i was thinking maybe 225/55/16 or 225/60/16.

i know ill need spacers for the offset and longer studs etc.

But will there be any other clearance issues with regards to the tyres fouling on suspension because of the width?

also would it be better to go for 55 or a 60 aspect ratio of tyre?

Thanks
John

I have 16" merc ML's on mine and use a 215 / 60 X 16. It's the closest to the original diameter. so the speedo reads almost true
I had to fit 10mm spacers to bring the ET back to the VW spec

never had any fouling or clearance issues

10mm spacer

the spec ET was 39, so a 10mm spacer will drop it to 37

60%

60 profile has more choice of 97 rated tyres, in particular the Pirelli P6 van
