which tyres on my alloys

Post by lambrettalee »

i have just picked up a set of merc c class alloys which are 16in x 7j et 37, if they fit on with no issues with regard to clearance i believe the et is good, am i correct? the tyres are 205/55/16 which again if im right put my speedo out and the gearing/speedo higher??, i have checked a tyre chart and 205/60/16,s are as good as bang on (-2mm) and 225/55/16,s are bang on giving the same overall radius as my 185/14,s, my question is which of the previously mentioned tyres would be best for looks, economy, practicality, ride comfort ??(not necceserally in that order) or would i be better off putting some thicker rubber on them in the way of 215/60/16s??? on the chart these were overall 10mm larger than my 14,s, will this drop my revs in top gear and be a better option, any ideas?????

www.tyretraders.com. get some phat rears on 70s or 75s. use your satnav to estimate your roadspeed......the longer the rolling circumpherence of yer wheel(unless yer engine is crap & WEAK) the better. on an average 200 mile trip you could gain 40 miles at the same revs, but if your engine is a bit worn, who knows????

I use 215 /60 x 16 tyres on that size rim, speedo reads bang-on according to GPS.

Note: putting huge tyres on the rear won`t affect the speedo reading, as the speedo is driven from the front wheel, so that is what governs the reading.
Keep it real.

I agree with westy there is more choice of the correctly rated tyre at 215/60
