Front hub lock nuts.

Post by T3teedub »

Just bought two from VAG @ over 9 quid the pair. And you don't get the bearings included for that price.

Yeah, but they are very nice looking fancy nuts ain`t they :D Almost too much to smack `em with a hammer and punch :( Just adjusted the fronts on my `van this morning and re-used the nuts, gave `em a good smacking
Keep it real.

Were they that bad that you couldn`t re-use `em? Mine had been used a couple of times looking at `em, tightened up OK though and then peened the slot (that`s right isn`t it, you do tighten them right up?)
Keep it real.

Don't over-tighten them. Haynes says you should be able to move the big washer behind the nut. There should be no movement (no knocking) when you grasp the wheel and tug it back and forth at 9/3 and 12/6. Go for a ten minute drive and then feel the hub. If it's just warm it's probably ok. If it's very hot it's probably too tight.
