awning fixing

Post by pieman1 »

Hi all on the drive away awning connection to the T25 high top gutters do you recommend the figure of eight or the gutter clamps, I have a new awning with the figure of eight ,
but I don't like the look of them they seem a bit fiddly to put on the gutters'??

On a hightop get a length of 'J' rail, rivet this to the roof at the correct height and then the figure 8 plastic clips onto this.

On our high top we find the pole and clamp system works better, thats what we used on the Royal Tunnel then when we bought our new Khyam awning it came with the figure of 8 set up but we couldn't get on with it so we bought the pole and clamp system to go with it and find it much easier.
Hope this helps :ok

Pole and clamps scratch the gutters making them rust, also the bellows are not taut enough (definately on a Khyam) and it can flap in the wind and sag in rain holding water and then soaking through.

But then again we've only had the van and Khyam 6 and a half years so obviously we don't know what we're on about :|

lol Ian...............very true............I was impressed though that the new clamps come with rubber protection on the clamp so as to prevent scratching on the gutter :D

Yes my Khyam has rubber pads on the clamps too so no scratching. Never had any problems but then we tend not have the awning attached anyway.

Was actually thinking about getting one of those fixed pull out awning/shade things. Anyone bought or fitted one to a high top?

Yep, most of us who do year round camping have the Caravanstore or wind-out awnings.
