attaching awning to van
Looking to purchase a royal traveller awning. Just been looking how they attach to the van. Anyone advise the best way to attach one to an autosleeper. I notice you can use a clamp or figure of 8 method.

awning rails are by far the easiest and quickest way to attach an awning

Re: attaching awning to van
I'd been clamping our RT3 awning until last time when I thought fig 8 channel strip would be easier... I was wrong! Our gutters have got so much hi-top sealant in that the fig8 won't go on properly - much cursing and nursing trapped finger in the end I gave up and used a combination of gutter clamps (but not the pole that I thought I wouldn't need with us!)/ fig8 channel / determination!
Going to return to nice and easy option of sliding a pole into the pocket and clamping on next time!

OK so I'm not so new anymore, but still a slack poster - where does the time go?!

Ah I see you have a 'sleeper.. nice!
the rail looks like this
I fitted this to the high top of my sleeper
and your awning has this on the umbilical
(the top piece)
Autosleeper gutters are not deep enough to hold the awning on securely

Re: attaching awning to van
We have a simple pole that threads through the awning canopy and sits in the gutter. This is then secured with three soft jaw crocodile clips (pretty strong ones) 20 seconds to fasten/unfasten....easy.

I wouldn't go worrying, looks like you've got three options available, I wouldn't recommend using the figure 8 strips, but that still leaves you with two good options.

Re: attaching awning to van
I tied some guy ropes on the attachment bit and chuck em over the roof and peg at the other side. job done. As for using it with a wind out awning, I have a twin slider so pitch the awning on one side and wind the other awning out on the other

Re: attaching awning to van
Many do it including ourselves. We use a Caravanstore on our hightop. Saying that, we now have to re-attach/seal our top as it has come loose from metal top in a couple of places.. but was starting to come loose before using caravanstore.
