Fit poptop or sell and buy poptop

Post by rusdee »

Ok I've got a very tidy auto homes camper but its only 2 birth now I've got a cab for my son but at 10 years old he's soon going to out grow it so do I sell it or fit a pop top, has anyone bought a new poptop for one I've seen some for £1200 but Im not sure how good they are .I went to look at a second hand one today but was off a autosleeper an needed more cutting to the roof and was also abit tatty. Or sell the van an just buy a poptop one
P.s. sorry if I've posted this in the wrong bit

If your happy with the van keep it.
Either have a good look round for a good second hand pop ( try one of the breakers, I know Billy had a leisure drive pop for sale a while ago ), Devons are good roofs with plenty of space or you could always fit a bigger hightop with a bed in.

Your van does look good. It should sell well. If you want a pop top I suggest that you wait until the Spring and look out for a westie. Loads more headroom and not claustrophobic and a proper bed rather than hammocks. Having said that there maybe one for sale on the Eastfalia site. For £1200 you won't get much probably something to rebuild if you have the time. Happy hunting.

Timber technicians sell a hi top which will make your van a four birth. It looks like a emc style roof. Not very expensive either.that way you get to keep your van which is a known entity.

1. Fit Viking Spacemaker pop top (if you can source one)
2. Fit high top with slide out double bed
3. Sell and buy an Autohomes Komet. Exactly the same layout and operation 'downstairs' as yours so any deficiencies should stand out like a sore thumb when buying

My high top looks exactly the same as that one and the one thing I would say is it does catch the wind. Its funny really because I was wondering about changing mone over for a pop top for that reason. However if you have power steering then I dont think youd notice the difference between your existing one.

I have had had an adult sleep in mine but tbh I dont think she would have fancie it for a week

They're all pretty much the same in the wind, it's a fairly large sided vehicle even without any top on it.

I was looking at a pop top. Wil hunt a link out for you. They seek then in eBay for 1800 ish and then you have to fit them. It is apparently a reasonably simple job??????
Either that or do as I did and just but an airtop tent.
Dave.

I have this roof and would thoroughly recommend it. Decent double in the roof and mahoosive front cupboard.
All I ask is for the chance to prove that money won't make me happy.

Thanks for all the replys leaning to a poptop over a new higher top and would like to keep the camper I've got now but if a nice one turned up... so think I'm going to look out for a scraper that I can take the roof off ,like the sound of a viking one though

I was thinking of putting on a Hi-top as I currently have a tin top but wondered if the extra fuel consumption was worth the occasional use?

Doesn't affect fuel consumption either.
