Haven't waxoyled it yet, that's my next job. Thanks for the reminder. Before mike fixed the roof, I did actually have a lake inside the van

:D mine had a hole under the vent, the van made it!
It let the water out, it was clearly getting worse as the van decided to keep making the hole bigger.

2 years on and MM's work is as good as new.

back to the wax for a sec, it also seals the seam cracks (from one direction at least)

"Breathable" is a much abused term. For a fabric to be waterproof and breathable, a pressure/temperature differential has to exist across the fabric to "drive" the moisture through the micro-porous membrane or barrier i.e you are hot and sweaty inside your Gore-tex, it's cold outside, so the moisture migrates outward, aided by the water repellent treatment of the face fabric which prevents it getting saturated by the rain (and stops the whole breathable process in it's tracks)

A cold van wrapped up in a cold wet cloth bag will sweat and rust like any other. Better to have it clean and uncovered - where trapped dirt won't wreck the paintwork on corners and edges - and the wind will dry it out soon enough. Failing that, go out for a drive in the thing
