Westy gas tank....slightly broke it.....
Tried to fix the non working gauge...god know's why as it only needs filling once a year...and it all went a bit Pete Tong...
Managed to get the 4 allen bolts out, and the external part of the gauge... but the back bit parted company and disappeared back into the tank....
Tried to fish it out but it wasn't having any of it..
Never mind, thinks I , just put it back together and forget I ever started the job...
Now it leaks like a good -un from the back of the gauge. The original plastic washer is back in place , so I'm assuming some form of jointing compound would be of use here..
Any suggestions before I pull it to pieces again!

Mine had a rubber o ring type thing and leaked first time i refitted my assembly. I silicone greased (not sealant) the rubber o ring and more importantly tighten the 4 bolts evenly so it doesn't go on askew

Cheers Lloydy,
I have some silicone grease so will give it a go if it ever stops raining!

I'm pretty sure I just used RTV sealant on mine.

Re: Westy gas tank....slightly broke it.....
tut tut sealant on a highly pressurised tank of flammable gas..... RUN!!!!
seriously though, i'm sure it is fine but i would want to know the o ring/washer was doing its job rather than the sealant hiding it not sealing. Because one day it will leak

Re: Westy gas tank....slightly broke it.....
Bloody hell....spent a couple of hours 'fishing' in the lpg tank for the gauge parts and got everything apart from the small gear that pushes onto the shaft...
Gutted!
Looks like it's going to be a 50 yoyo job for a replacement gauge from the fatherland...unless anyone has one!!

Have you tried a flexible pipe on the end of the hoover to suck it out.

Did think of that, but then thought of residual gas left in tank being sucked into the hoover with it's electric motor gently sparking away.....could be 'entertaining'....CycloneMike wrote:Have you tried a flexible pipe on the end of the hoover to suck it out.

Will probably end up taking the tank off and giving it a bloody good shake!

That's quite a bit different to the type I have Andy....I suspect that when you finally fish the little blighter out you will find the gear has cracked. Looking at it I'm guessing the missing gear is an interference fit and pressed onto the shaft. Deterioration of the nylon under pressure leads to it cracking.

Being pulled and twisted by an impatient halfwit in a cack-handed attempt at removal may also lead to cracking and deterioration.....
Worst case scenario is anew gauge from Gunzl for about 50 euro's plus packing.
Don't be surprised when I'm banging on you van door at 6am with a couple of mugs in hand at the Pikey!!
