Is it the tap?

Post by cleagarr »

Hi

I've been messing with the wiring today (pandora's box to say the least). After removing the fridge and sorting some other stuff I decided to fit a replacement water pump. Dead easy - or so I thought. I'm now on the beers after an extremely frustrating afternoon!

The tap/pump is now wired like this -red wire from battery through in line fuse to one of the two wires coming from the tap. Red wire from other tap connector to brown wire on pump. Blue wire on pump via a black wire to the chasis for earthing. When the live wire is connected to the battery the pump stays on whether the tap is on or off. I've tried the wires at the tap in reverse and the same thing happens.

Am I doing this right? Is it that the tap is not switching off?
All I ask is for the chance to prove that money won't make me happy.

Are you trying to pump water or air? They wont switch off without water in the tap( back pressure I presume).

?????
Usually just a microswitch operated by a cam. Unless you have a pressurized system, which is unusual on these vans without showers and a couple of sinks.

Well I've tried all possible combinations... the pump and tap work and water comes through fine. Trouble is that when I turn the tap off the water stops but the pump is still on!

Check the continuity between the two tap wires. If the tap works as a switch it can only be either "normally open" or "normally closed". If the continuity doesn't change when it's operated, the switch must be knackered.

For the record, it was the switch in the tap. Shiny New tap £17.99.

Thanks guys.
