LPG tank fixings. (Info)

Post by kentishvanman »

Hi,
Reading earlier thread about LPG tank reminded me of an article I read recently where an underslung LPG tank fell off a camper because the cradle had rusted through. The cradle was a plastic coated steel one and once the plastic is damaged the steel rusts though quite quickly.
Checked mine (Leisure Tank) and found that the plastic coating has left the steel exposed, now rusting, so will deal with this sooner rather than later. Same article said that Autogas only use stainless steel cradles.

I had plastic coated steel grab handles in my bathroom - they looked sound but had rusted under the plastic and a 14 stone pull on them would have led to an accident. For the few pounds more that stainless would cost it makes sense - who wants their gas tank bouncing along the road underneath them!
