Sun canopy type things

Post by ghost123uk »

From another post I just made =

ghost123uk wrote: I just got given a JK clip on awning "as new" = I know why I got it given to me  = It is absolute RUBBISH Thanks a lot Stuart "NOT" - you can have it back, I was very lucky the metal poles didn't scratch my lovely paintwork when it fell off 10 minutes after I attached it

Can anyone recommend a sun canopy type thing that works well (other than forking out hundreds for a Fiamma type permanently attached one) ?

At present, I am madly stitching away converting an old caravan awning into a "sun" canopy. I'll stick up a pic if I finally manage to get it attached to the 'bus.

But why call it a sun canopy when the main use is to keep the barbie protected from the British standard summer weather? :rofl

Bought a fiamma caravan store awning from 80-90 classifieds absolutley brilliant and easy to use, some on fleabay at the mo about £80 ish. Mine is 2.5M will upgrade soon to 3.1M 'cause its is so good and quick to use, the extra length is worth having (size matters  )

I made one using a pole from a tunnel tent, some ripstop fabric and some ingenuity - did a good job for 6 years. Now the van is being revamped we're thinking of going down the fiamma route simply due to the ease of erection (ooh err missis  )

£150 for a nearly new f45 fiamma awning via the yard. 8)

Like with most non-essential extras the key is to keep looking and bide your time.

I had a canvas tarp bought from an eBay seller, originally for the bell tent, but it was huge, so cut it down, got some tape that fig 8 rails go on and stitched it on, eyelets in the corners and two poles and guy ropes. Fasten to van gutter with fig 8. Best thing, cost me very little cos I already had the tarp, which was fairly cheap anyway, and good canvas too.

Ta for the offer Rob but, thinking about this, my gutters have fancy trim on them that I don't want to remove,

So anything with a "figure 8" fastening is not going to work.

Looks like I might have to look at used Fiamma's (Ta for the B.W. heads up Cruz)
