They're both quite pricy though, I have got details of a place that has the materials to make your own (although you still need a vacuum pump) I can dig the details out if you're interested - just let me know.

Yes I would like to see but I think it would be too expensive for the amount of work I would do with it. Is it a job you could do for me when I get round to it? I would pay you for it of cause. I think you are only about an hour away so quite practical really.

I have done similar with ratchet straps and also using male / female formers - basically the same as screwing the wood on to force the inner curve which has been done ^^ however this was by laminating up aero ply which is incredibly thin and very pliable. Loving your work.

Looks good mate. I have used a bagpress and they are great. You have a furniture company then? Im a cabinet maker/joiner and must say i think you are awesome not using sheet materials for carcassing. very admirational while there are so many crap conversions being sold out there.

Thanks I started out as a furniture designer, now I'm not entirely sure what I am – I generally stick with "Designer" as I'm also a graphic designer... and a photographer. I'd like to move away from the graphic design stuff and head back to furniture making and particularly the camper van stuff, but times are hard and I'll do what ever comes along at the moment to pay those bills!

I do think most conversions are pretty rubbish, there are a couple of companies out there doing decent stuff but most are a rehash of Westfalia and those rounded cornered doors I hate so much!

Veneering all the panels has added hours and hours to the job, but ultimately I wanted this to look as good as possible and it allowed me to use different substrates depending on what job they had to do. I'd normally use birch ply for cupboard carcasses but this one was a bit different with it's side flap which meant it didn't really have any carcasses!

Ah yes - same sort of thing really - anything to hold the sheets in place whilst the glue sets. Great thing about the vacuum press is it's even distribution of weight.

After another week of long days the main units are just about done and Dai's even managed to get the van back to play with! I haven't managed to get many photos I'm afraid but I did get this one last night before Dai took it away.



Top locker to build this week, I will get some photos of that being made!
