If that heater exchanger works well enough it is going to be really cheap to do. Will it be possible to put a couple of elbows in it so that all of the hoses go on the same end?

The Helton shower heat exchangers have 3m of pipe inside and the hot water exchanger has 4.5 meters. The system looks really good but costs £412 delivered.

It will need some sort of thermo mixer so that the first lot of water doesn't scold.

I am hoping not to use a tank and the heat exchanger draw enough heat to give a warm shower without scalding. If I cant get it warm enough with free plumbing fittings from Lloydy I will have to fall back on plan B from a contact I have made outside the realms of club 80-90 but lets give plan A a go first before we look at plan B.

Jed , I'm not 100% sure but I don't think the d5,s store fault codes .

This is a nice set up , http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BzrviTyc8R8" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I also think you need a timer to tell the unit what to do

That was really interesting watching. I'm now thinking mine is as noisy as that one (hence working fine). It really is noisy though.

I love that water tank he had.

So I think I get you Jed, your going to run cold water over the exchanger and hope it gets warm enough for a shower. Will be a good experiment.

Are you going to isolate the two purposes? Ie have the shower on but not provide any auxiliary heating to the van?

That's a good video.

I think the heat exchanger Jed is going to make will be fine for providing hot water once the heater is up and running.

If wanting hot water for the sink there needs to be a way of storing it. Like in Lloyds first post. Otherwise it'll take a few minutes of the noisey heater running just to get a couple of litres of hot water. I would rather use the kettle.

How would the calorifier be fed from the westy water tank?

Do you have measurements for it please?

Is the any reason why you couldn't refill via a pump?

Do you have any idea how long the water stays hot for?

Sorry for all of the questions.

Do you have measurements for it please? not sure , its up in the shed , not huge around 12' wide and same in height

Is the any reason why you couldn't refill via a pump? don't see why not , it only holds 5lts max

Do you have any idea how long the water stays hot for? the one I have is well insulated , so a few hours i would think, and you could lag it even more

Sorry for all of the questions no worries , if you don't ask you will never know .

I'll fetch it all down from the shed after easter and measure it up properly

Has anyone looked at flow rates for various products? The 'Hot horse' product costs £180 and delivers 5 litres/minute whereas the Geyser only dlivers a paltry 2.5 litres/min, however I can't see a price for it on the link. A trickle of a shower is fine on warmer days but when there's even a slight chill in the air, I'd rather fork out a little extra for the increase in hot water delivery. Good quality domestic electric showers are delivering 10 litres/min so I'd say that 5 l/min is pretty damn good from a portable unit.

Anyways, back to it folks!
Why would the glass be anything other than half full?

I think the 5l/min for the 'Hot horse' is when it's connected as standard to a hose pipe feed, so if you go 'wild' then your flow rate will be limited by whatever pump you use, whereas the Geyser comes with the pump, handset, carry bag, etc included. Sure, the 2.5l/min the Geyser does is not ideal but it would probably be enough for us - any higher and you'd find yourself carrying lots of extra water just for showering.

In terms of pricing for the Geyser the best price I've found so far seems to be from Showerking - if you order from them directly rather than through eBay they are selling them for £139 including 24 hour Parcelforce delivery.

flow rates are all well and good but you have to remember its not like the shower in your house, you learn to shower a different way with a limited supply of water

I think my pump is 8 l/min which would empty my onboard tank in under 10 mins if showering like in the house
