Eber replacement.

After much faffing about trying to stop my eberspacher smoking I had an Eber specialist look at it. The bad news is the heat exchanger is knackered and as it is an obsolete D2L no spares are available. So I take it that it is the end of the road for this one unless somebody on here knows different?
Anyway I was wondering what to replace it with a webasto or another Eber? From what I can see the new ones aren't suitable for external mounting so will have to under the bed. So I would like the quietest one possible if there is a difference. Would it be worth taking a chance on a second hand one? New ones aren't cheap!

But any suggestions/answers will be appreciated very much.

Webasto Airtop 2000 will fit in the casing - I persuaded Trucker to go that way after I had his Eberspächer running again. With a little ingenuity it can be done.

This how I did mine, with LOADS of help from OBG

Fitted a nice Webasto into the old Westy Eber box underneath the van with a lot of advice and help from Oldie but Goodie, cheers mate!

-any particular challanges you met?
-Would you be able to describe what you did in terms of connecting the wiring to the old wiring(or did you run complete new wires i suppose?). Battery feed and so on...?
-Diesel line: did you just tap in to the old diesel line?
-What parts of the old system did you resuse? (other than the eber box)

I too have just purchased a Webasto from the very helpful OBG and was wondering where did you place your timer?
I am assuming most people will install it on the front panel under the rear seat. Wonder if anyone has place one in the ash tray hole?
It looks like it will fit but access for the wiring is a nightmare!!

How about the external temp sensor, do you need one when the Webasto is fitted outside under the van?

The Airtop 2000 checks the temp of the incoming air that flows over the ecu within the casing. You can fit an external sensor but you don't really need it.

The Airtop 2000 checks the temp of the incoming air that flows over the ecu within the casing. You can fit an external sensor but you don't really need it.

The "incoming" air is from the living quarters I presume, not the intake for combustion?
Am very tempted in one of these, but really broke right now!
Is there any reason that webasto are better than ebers?
What type of controls do they usually come with? (Set to come on below a certain temp, set on a timer, etc)
