Stereo help needed please

Post by Zazmeister »

Hi all

*First post alert

We bought a 1984 T25 2 weeks ago, and when we got it the stereo didn't work. No problem, I've fitted countless over the years. Well, 6 I suppose.

So I took out the old one, and unplugged the red and white cables and whoosh - the next thing they had disappeared. Everything else is there and fits nicely

Now, I don't remember in the old days even having these so
a - where would they have gone [I've taken the top dash bit off and can't find them anywhere]
b - do I need them?

It's a new stereo I'm putting in but I can't work out why I need them attached in the first place.

Any ideas?

Welcome to the forums, check out the wiki, there is helpful stuff in there regarding the stereo wiring.

I did already.

Why have a forum if everyone in need of help is just told to go somewhere else?

Obviously my first thread will now become my last. Cheers.

Was just recommending what has helped me with my stereo wiring, and hoped it would you too.

So what position are you in currently? From my understanding you have lost the wiring somewhere when you unplugged the wires, correct?

The red and white RCA cables disappeared when I unplugged them i I have all the others and I can't see why I need RCD cables in the first place. So I just want to know where they would flip to when unplugged and whether it is worth ripping the dash out to find them

I can't remember ever having them before....

Have you removed the ash tray to see if that helps?

The ashtray went years ago. I've just heard back from the previous owner so off to furtle and see what damage I can do.

Cheers

They will be doing one of two things, either feed in from a cd multi player, normally fitted under the passenger seat, or feeding an amplifier normally powering up back speakers, which could be anywhere! but I would look under seats, including back seat. hope that helps.

Thank you - that's what I needed to know!

The old stereo had a separate CD player and we won't be using that [ripping it out tomorrow] and I was sure that the actual new unit wouldn't need those leads.

Cheers - you are a star. :pimp
