No 12V power

Post by Jakehouse101 »

I have recently purchased T25 83' Devon which has a Zig CF8 Unit in it. The 12V appliances worked when i first got it but since i have had to take the engine battery out to charge, the 12V appliances have not worked neither the red or green lights on the Zig unit come on (they did before). The leisure battery seems to charge when driving and when plugged in to the mains. The 240V power points work when plugged into the main but none of the 12v appliances do. Also the fridge only seems to work by using the gas.

Has anyone got any ideas?

Jake

hi,
im guessing you may have missed the power feed from the main battery when you re-installed it ( why did you take it out to charge it anyway?)
either that or you have one of the switches in the wrong position. there is a downloads section on the main web page (under "club stuff" tab)cf8 manual

back to basics, have you checked the fuses?

oh, and the fridge shouldnt work on 12v unless the engine is running , and shouldnt be wired to the leisure battery, only the main battery.
do you have either a voltmeter or bulb on a wire to check if power is actually getting to the leisure wiring from the leisure battery?

Hi

Thanks for your advice, i decided to open up the zig unit front panel and the wire that connects the fuses was not attached to THE top fuse, I soldered it and 12V power is fine. I cant get the fridge to work though, i switch it to on when i am driving but nothing happens, works with gas and not sure if it should work when hooked up to 240V but again nothing happens.

I had to charge the battery because i drained it when i had a problem (hole) in THE fuel line.

Do you know the model number of your fridge, would think by the age of your van, if orginal its an electrolux RM122 which works off 12v or gas only. Did the fridge work on 12v prior to removing the zig unit? Where abouts are you? and welcome. :)

Thank you , your right it is an Electrolux RM 122 and that makes sense only runs of 12V and gas. The previous owner has written notes in book regarding fridge and mentions it running off 240V. Seems like the note book may have been talking about another van.

There is an on off button for fridge under the sink which i have turned on when the engine has been running but fridge didnt seem to go cold. Cant be sure it worked before i took battery out to charge.

OK so 90 mins with the engine running and it is not getting cold suggests either the power supply is no good, the earth is no good or the element is no good

All these things can be checked with a multi meter.
The element for resistance (ohms)
12 v supply to the element.. and earth continuity

I drove down to Devon at the weekend and the fridge did actually get quite cold so all appears to be working now obviously didnt give it enough time before.

Thanks for any advice.
