urgent: ignition amplifier-hall control/hall sender/coil

Post by vanjam »

anyone in shrewsbury area got any of these hanging about please! have just been towed home-HT spark went briefly intermittent then died. Coil resistance readings are not in line with bentley but it's not an original coil so not sure if that's an issue. . Am getting battery voltage on terminals 2 and 4 of hall control. Remaining tests on hall sender and control seem to be dependent on having a known good coil in place-from my reading of it - if I could get hold of one or more of said items, could at least easily and quickly eliminate- I'm due to be taking the van to big family do for my mum's 80th tomorrow - major implications if I can't get it moving by lunch tomorrow. All thoughts gratefully received-will pay for bits obviously

No spare bits but it may help to know that intermittant operation for about 300 yards and then completly dying is usually due to the hall effect device giving up the ghost. May help when tracking down the problem.

I agree that would most likely be the culprit here... but not the simplest to source/fit.

I have not fitted one, but am about to, any fitting tips?

I think the main thing is to source the exact same part, mine was not and so some mods were required - this added about an hour to the job. I removed the distributor and worked indoors - if you do the same then make sure you mark up the distributor/base so you can realign when refitting.
