Electric hookup

Post by Wear Sunscreen »

Am about to install an electric hookup in my T25 but unsure where I should attach the earth wire that will come from the consumer unit. Instructions tell me to attach to the bodywork but am sure that is incorrect.
Any help gratefully accepted

Yep, any convenient part of the body. This connection needs to be very secure, so that if for some reason you get a short out from say a chaffed wire, then the current will go to earth, and not to you. But the trip switch should work before that anyway, but you cannot be too safe. Electricity finds the easiest way out, and this is the purpose of an earthing system.

Like Simon said earth to body. Took me a while to get my head round but have a look at http://www.sbmcc.co.uk/ There's lots of info on there about leccy stuff. You might have to register to see their forums but quite handy. I used it lots a few years ago whilst converting a Transit. Had the current van re-wired "properly" by a local motor home building company and chatted it through with them and they explained it all to me but I forget now... must be my age

You should also run an earth to the body from the mains inlet (from the green and yellow)

Thanks for your help folks
Was worried that as the battery is connected to the body that connecting the earth was the wrong thing to do, but wiser now I hope
