Electronic Ignition

Post by HeloEngineer »

Hi has anyone fitted electronic ignition to there van. Mine is 1988 1.9, has anyone any advice? Is it worth it. My van runs fineon points, just thinking ahead a little, for when a replacement is required.

Cheers All!!

Maybe its been changed to a points dizzy? I have seen one before
If it has best change it back to electronic, you will need an origional dg dizzy or you can buy new , an ignition module (origional may still be screwed to the body) and the cable with connectors

When I had a 'prototype' I changed points for electronic ignition, just a cheap one off ebay c.£30. Started and ticked over so much better, did in-laws van as well with same result. No-brainer. Bri

Yeh I've deffinately got points fitted! Wouldn't have asked the question otherwise.

Seen them on ebay. Think I'll hive it a whirl. Thanks all

If its a 009 distributor on there (could well be if it has points), removing it and fitting the right dizzy will transform it.

Thanks

Do they need much setting up?
Is it worth buying new leads/plugs or will the old ones do for now?

Easier than points, no dwell/gap to set, just the timing. I miss doing timing, it used to be quite satisfying twiddling the dizzy to line the marks up.
