Sorry, I dont have my Bentley or van at the moment.
Under the gear lever cover there is a contact block with 4 wires.
2 of the wires are for your starter inhibit. (will your van start in Neutral? it should, but you only talk about starting in Park)
The other 2 wires are for reversing lights.
I think the two thick wires are for the starter and the 2 thinner ones for the lights, but I cant really remember.
Try pulling a pair of wires. off the block and holding them together.
If you have the correct pair the lights should come on.
If you have the wrong pair, the starter will turn (when the key is turned too) WHATEVER GEAR YOU HAVE SELECTED (so double check you are in Neutral or Park.)
Ofcourse the ignition must be on for reversing lights to work.
The cutting out must be totally unrelated.
