The other major factor is whether you're running a pipe of hot oil the length of the van or a single bit of wire. I know which I'd rather have a problem with in use...

Wrong, the oil in the tube is cold.
I'm sure you have heard of brakes and how they work, just in case you haven't, it's energy transfer, the fluid does not move, it merely transfers the energy.

Oh and mechanical gauges use heat protection if the tube passes any components hot enough to melt ptfe, just like the electric ones... which rely on electricity to work, and we all know about how troublesome that can be.

So I'm assuming oil quality also has an impact if it's temperature affects the pressure?

I just used 15w40 mineral as I'd read this was the best, any idea why it's recommended to use mineral and not synthetic?

oil viscosity is temperature dependant.
I use 20/50 mineral and have stopped the oil light flickering on after a high speed run and sudden stop

I thought about doing that but everyone suggests that's just prolonging a problem that's going to happen, but then again it only happens on a certain roundabout slowing right down from 60mph to 10mph and then a tight roundabout, so I wasn't sure if it would still happen on a healthy engine
