Thanks mlc, will give it a go soon. Wasn't impressed when I saw the complexity of things on the back of the clocks!
Why would the glass be anything other than half full?

The positive 12V supply goes to the strip terminal towards the centre of the cluster - the one with the plastic tab. The earth connection is the one that fits a under a screw in terminal and is closest to the connector. If you get power to those terminals watch the second hand closely in case it is just the capacitors wanting fixing.

Right done what midlifecrisis suggested and run a positive direct to the clock and it worked :shock:
Think I have a break in the pcb where it connects to the multiplug and bends on terminal 5 what's the best way ti fix this
