Saw your other thread and the other advisories.
Was the tester pretty young by any chance? Don't think he has seen many oldish vehicles.
Re: high beam led indicator
My high beam tell-tale on a 1982 van is yellow, too. It does take a bit of getting used to after seeing a blue warning lamp on every other car I've driven.
However, I really can't see why your MoT tester failed you on that point, for two reasons: There does not appear to be anything in the MoT handbook that mentions what colour it should be and, more importantly, it doesn't appear that the new rule even applies to your 1981 van anyway. As the relevant part of the manual states:
"on vehicles first used on or after 1 April 1986, the ‘tell-tale’ illuminates when main beam is selected."

Re: high beam led indicator
Correct, theres nothing that specifies the colour. You just need some indication that you're on full. Whether required or not, its courtesy but the colour is irrelevant as long as you can see it thats all that matters. Mine is orange now.

Re: high beam led indicator
They're ok until the bulb blows and you try to fit an LED. I had mixed results doing that and had to dip the entire LED in black paint to get the brightness down to an acceptable level. I gave up and just fitted an orange panel light. MOT tester said it was fine as long as I knew what it meant. Some MOT stations have little to no experience of older vehicles and that can sometimes extend beyond the colour of the high beam indicator (which is commonly blue) to all kinds of daft pedantic stuff.
I could write a book on some of the silliest things I've had testers say over the years.
