Hi guys,

cheers for all the responses. I've spent the afternoon under the van trying to save a couple of cm of cable length, and I've managed to wriggle the cable through at the battery end so it should be enough for me to connect it up and not be under any stress. Just gotta grab some 8mm ring connectors tomorrow and I can hopefully get the van back on the road!

By the way it's a 2.0 CU air cooled with the Battery under the drivers seat (miles away from the starter) which was why I was reluctant to shell out for a replacement run of cable, hopefully the rest of the cable is better than the starter motor end, it'll all work with out a hitch tomorrow evening. I'm really interesting in adding the cut off isolation switch for added security a bit later down the line though.

Thanks again for all the replies ;o)

Still on topic, if a battery isolator is fitted, will the battery cover (hinged metal) still close properly? Just wondering.
Why would the glass be anything other than half full?

You can run a cable from battery to switch, mount switch on side of battery box, then fit the front to rear cable to switch.
You can gain 6 inches or so, depending where you fit the switch

If you get stuck, I have the proper battery cable crimping pliers here.

Cheers Rich, hadn't thought of that. Now I can fit that nice cover that I got for a tenner!
