Speedometer Kmh/Mph-* Now With Group Buy*

Post by trucker »

Hi, the speedo in my van reads in kmh only I was wondering if there is any way to add mph to the dial like I've seen in some rhd caravelles though obviously they have Mph on the outside of the dial and kmh on the inside I am not fussy which way round (all the lorrys I drive give prominence to Kmh)
I was thinking of perhaps a viynl decal to put over the original one.
At the moment I have a little tippex mark at all the important speeds 30,40,50 etc but I would like something more elegant. The speedo I have is a late one with trip meter and has the number 500 on it.
Cheers
Paul

you can do this yourself, but it's a delicate operation..
It involves removal of the housing and clock, and careful removal of the needle.
I fitted white face dials on mine

the guy selling them has long since stopped but I found this.. http://www.lockwoodinternational.co.uk/ ... i1869.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I'm not sure whether the odometer is correctly spaced.. but you could call and ask.

Ok spoke to a really helpful guy at lockwoods today and on closer inspection it seems mine is different to the one they do at the moment, ie mine only goes to 180 kmh so the spacing around the dial would be different also the trip on mine is more central.
He will do a one off for me if I send him my dial face but at a one off price, He will however do a group buy so if anybody is interested, Obviously all the dials will have to be the same model vdo 500, 180kmh, with trip.
I have no idea if mine is common to all Imported vans with a trip or if there is a difference between petrol and diesel, water cooled and air cooled etc etc

Mine looks like this,

Hi Paul

I might be interested, however, I would want dual KPH/MPH readings on the dial as I spend half my driving time in Europe. Is that what the guy is offering or just an MPH facia?

Right, this is the dial I am thinking of which is a dual mph/kph one
http://www.lockwoodinternational.co.uk/ ... i1869.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
As you can see they retail at £39.97 the cost for a one off is £149 so the more peeps interested the closer we to the retail price.
Once we have an idea of numbers who could be interested I will speak to them.
I am quite happy to take mine apart and send it off to be used as the template if this is a goer.

I'd be very interested in this, as long as the price isn't far off what the others retail for.
The speedo being in KPH is not something that really bothers me, but the way things are going with MOT regs changing all the time, how long will it be til they pick up on this?

:ok

Hi there. Count me in on the numbers. £150 seems steep but hopefully with enough of us it drops.

Failed my MOT on Saturday on not having a MPH reading. Regulations slightly different here in NI as I found out, pain in the a***. So the sooner the better, the weather always turns good when your off the road!

If any of you end up just changing to an mph speedily, we'd be interested in having your KPH speedo, presuming the odometer works. 260-270k km on the odo would be perfect, but not that fussed.

Ok, I spoke to Clive at Lockwoods this morning,
The price for four or five would be £50 each, payment can be made direct to them via paypal.
Obviously I will have to know before any payment is sent as I will be sending my dial off to be the template.
If you're interested please make sure the dial you have is EXACTLY the same as mine.

I think a list of those who definitely want one is the way to go. Once we get to four or five or so we can order and I will send my dial off to be copied
The turnaround time should be five days from them receiving mine and p+p will be £1.95

The List
