Gas struts on tailgate

Post by trebormint »

The struts on my autosleepers tailgate stuggle to support it with the bike rack so I was hoping to replace them with uprated ones.
Can anyone recommend where I can get them, if they exist?

I have the same problem, but I reckon that the bolt / hinges are only designed for the weight of the tail gate and a bit of wind, so whatever gas struts are put in, the load on the door frame with bike carrier and roof ladder could be a bit high - SO I just carry a loose strut to prop open the door. It's not very high tech, but it works for me.

I have the uprated ones from Germany, will lift the tailgate and you can hang two small children off the end, it will stay open (for scientific testing purposes only, of course).

Can be a bit of a pain to close when there is nothing on the rack to weigh it down!

Abit of 22mm copper pipe cut to length, slide it over the strut and they will hold anything :ok

I just asked a similar question "Gas struts, Squashed Grandkids" and one of the replies suggested these people.

Hope this helps your bike rack and my squashed grandkids.
