Fitting seats out of a rover

Post by ol bluey »

i know one or 2 of you peeps have done this

ive got a nice set of half leather seats here out of a 620 and just wondered how you go about fitting them as i can't seem to get the runners off the bottom (that would have been attached to the floor) to see how they line up

cheers

ok so I started to take the old seats out today which are on swivel bases. It looks like I'm not going to be able to re-use the swivel bases again due to the rover seats being a little wider and also they are very high. I think once they are in then the drive height should'nt be that bad

Not sure yet what I'm going todo about the new seats and if to fit the swivel bases or not.

It looks like I'll have to change the steering wheel! to something smaller

Fitting seats out of a rover

I've got Rover 620 seats in my van.

They are higher than the bog standard VW but give you a much better view, and I can assure you they are extremely comfortable with their ajustable bits and bobs.

If you are tempted to fit a smaller steering wheel on a non P/S van then the steering will be rather heavy when you manoeuvre at low speeds. Also the smaller wheel rim will obscure the warning lights on your dash.

I find that although the original steering wheel is a bit closer (especially to my bulky middle) because of the larger sized Rover seats, it does not cause any major problems.

I have had both Polo and Golf wheels fitted to my van and have always come back to the original, much easier to manoeuvre and easier/safer to see my warning lights.

The passenger seat has the original swivel fitted but the drivers seat never had such a device in the first place.

Now I'm not exactly 'slim Jim' but after getting used to it, I can get out of the drivers seat and into the interior with a bit of a squeeze under the big steering wheel...and I've got a non lifting arm rest fitted to the drivers seat. It's all a question of hooking your left leg into the correct position to start with.
