How do you stop locks freezing up.

Post by Sven »

The door locks seem to freeze solid at the slightest hint of frost. I had to get in via the tailgate recently.....wasnt in the mood for that at 5.45 am in the morn.
The door seals seem to suffer the same fate...
Any suggestions guys???????????

use petroleum jelly for the seals, a light smear of course.
hope it does bu**er them.
make sure they are dry before any frost?
a hotted up key will melt lock ice too

you could try and dismantel and regrease the door lock, only need to do the drivers door for now. Its fiddly but you sould be able to get the sliders to move more freely I used copper grease, but I have heard mention of graphite grease for door locks? Also Simon Baxter at brick yard does a refurb service.

Just saw it was you Sven if your down this way I could have a go at it I've done about 6 now! If you want to send it to brick yard I could loan you a spare handle whilst its away.

WD 40 causes more problems than it cures.
It attracts dust and dirt and gums the lock up.
Graphite is the stuff for locks.
