Hi guys,
Is there anyone in the general area of Telford who has a full width bed (Westfalia) fitted that I could have a look at.

I've got one that has never been fitted to my van and I had a quick go/look yesterday and found it a bit baffling.

I found what I thought would be the lower bolt holes and managed to get one in - but the other would'nt. - long story.

Would really like to have an example one that I can compare against.

Maybe put up a pic of the bed you already have so that it can be identified. There are more than one type iirc but Westys aren't my specialist subject.
I do know that the Myltivan type are about 50-60mm narrower than Caravelle type, so need small spacers that go behind the molded trim panels.

Will do when it get it home. It certainly doesnt appear to want any spacers, it only just fits in the gap. It's bloomin heavy and really awkward to do it on my own.

Thats a Caravelle one alright. They can be a pig to fit, I had a new hinge set from classic and it really put up a fight to get the bolts in.
Speaking of bolts, you do know that two are M10 and the other pair (that also anchor the seatbelts) are 7/16" UNF?

I managed to get one bolt in but couldnt get the other. Gotta work out which bit / bolt goes in which hole. As for the UNF bolts !!! hope I still have them (if I ever did) I dont recall taking any set belt brackets off down there (the ones are stillbolted along the middle and the 2 anchor points right at eh back are ok.

7/16" UNF is the industry standard for seatbelt fixings. It was to stop people substituting inferior grade bolts, by using a non-preferred size.

Had another play once i'd emptied everything out of the van. I found that pulling the seat out to its bed position and lying under it, I could get the bolts through Only the bottom two though (the bottom one on the sliding door side) is the UNF one and I did find the bolt. Only took 20 mins in the end
I've only done them temporary, no washers etc - i want to find out whats going on with the rest of the metal work first. Is it just two bolts either side?
And what are those rods doing there? They just stick out inwards! are they there just to have the seat rest on them at some stage?

Well its in !!!! sort of.

You dont have to be a genius to knwo that this is not right- very chilled out slung back and relaxed seated position

(This is held on one bolt at each side and the locating posts for the rear rest section.



With the seat lifted slightly it can be seen the bottom bolt is in but the top bolt and hole dont align as they should (info on the type of bolt for this fitting greaty appreciated - there is a slight gap between frame and bodypanel - should there be a spacer? also the hole in the body panel is pretty big!



Top locating post - looks like its been situated way too far back. More needed and located at the front, I think that should do it.
(Again, its a fair gap between the seat and the body - is that normal)

OK. Those posts are in the standard "bus" seat position. They were located and welded according to M code option.
Once the pegs are moved forward, the rear/upper holes in the hinge will line up with those in the body. Quite what's happened on your van's inner panel is anyone's guess but it looks like the welded-on nut has come adrift.
It will need a nut welded to a bit of 3mm flat (with a clearance hole for the bolt of course) I would say 100 x 40 and a couple of plug welds though the inner panel to fix it.
Once you have trim panels in the gaps will look a lot less dramatic

Many thanks. Will be glad to get the thing in, its a bleedin heavy lump to move about.

I am doing a similar job, installing a second set of nut plates in the rearmost position to hold up a luggage guard.
You will need to move the peg brackets forward 100mm by my reckoning.

I have a caravelle rear bed seat and I am shure mine does not use the side pins

Really? I would like to see pictures if you have time. I could'nt see how mine would stay up without + it has the catches on the sides.

Is yours totally held on the scissor type hinges?
