Fixing carpet - best tape ?

Post by syncroandy »

Not really tinkered much with my interior for a while but I'm planning on fitting front carpets to get some extra sound-deadening in the cab.

Has anyone on here used a doubled-sided carpet tape for fixing the front carpets in place to the wheelarches and seat boxes ?

Tesa make a cloth-based double-sided tape that looks like it might be up to the job.

Sure, I know spray glue is popular, but tape might have some advantages, its less smelly and messy to apply, could possibly be peeled away easier later if needed. I've also found spray-glue a bit and miss as regards longevity.

Just wondered if anyone had tried tape such as Tesa 4934 or 4964.

Right well I've ordered some of the Tesa 'carpet' tape as an experiment. Tesa are a German company and an OEM to VW, so fingers crossed it won't be sh1te..

I'll report back.

Thanks Ian, that stuff does look promising. If the tape proves no good I'll give it a try.

If you use any spray glue. make sure you mask up any area you dont want to get it on, seats, door cards carpet or flooring in the back behind seats.
It might not look as if you managed to spray it without getting anywhere else. That "pooh" will attract dirt like bees to a honeypot.trust me. I'm a retired Carpet Fitter. :ok
