Which window seal?

Post by richlaz »

First of all I'd like to apologise for my stupidity...

I need to replace the seal on my windscreen (famous wet footwells).

I have no idea what the "with trim strip groove" and "without trim strip groove" means, or how I know what my van has?

Also, where should I buy from? Gunzl? (I've read to completely avoid JK's seals)

Many thanks :-)

Ahh right I see... cheers Steveo - I didn't realise that some have a chrome strip around the outside - mine is just a plain rubber seal :ok

Now to work out where to buy from :D

i fit both types, problem is often finding the "correct" insert, if the rest of your van has that stlye as in factory glazed then you may wish to ,but check actual stock first, i buy from a couple of sources here and also germany, bear in min cost as it adds up,
if you have a van conversion then whilst my inserts are black , i can do other colours to order
oh and if you have opening 1/4's be aware that plain seals are scarce

Is it a difficult job replacing the window rubber?

I've watched a couple of videos, one from campervanculture and one on youtube. Both showing the use of string. They make it look really easy

I can see it going horribly wrong and me driving down to autoglass without a windscreen, and having to pay them a fortune :(

its not as hard as you might think ..take your time and think what youre doing

best do it when its hot out so the rubber is softer

just fitted 2 screens today and the ones from there(emporium) are soft and supple out the box and dont seem to harden much in winter even,
if your fearfull then check out a few folk , lots of one man outfits that shouldnt charge more than 20 to drop it in, once seen in the flesh you can do it yourself next time , once screen is clean and seal and cord fitted to screen then less than 60 seconnds

Cheers guys - might just be brave and give it a go... Not really possible to mess it up (unless I drop the glass!)

60 seconds!? I'd be lucky if I got the window in within 60 hours!
