Saab seats fitted

Post by sciroccotune »

Hi all just wanted to share my saab seat install.

First removed the old seats and then the runners by drilling the spot welds out, tried to avoids going through the arch but the metal is so thin it's not easy!

Welded up the holes by using a bit of copper under the hole to help pool the weld.

Drilled new holes for new seat runners and then prepared and painted the welded area top and bottom (under seal still to go on).

Bolted the seat in place using big washers on all 4 corners

Jobs a good un!

Took ages but well worth it as the are so much better than Vw seats and have so many types if adjustment and lumbar support :)

Hi, seats look good. I was thinking of changing my seats - what model of Saab were the seats out of - seems to be plenty listed on ebay but all look slightly different. Thanks Dan

Came from a saab 93 2000 ish but from what I have seen saab have been using the same runners for ever.

They would sit hi if the original seat runners had not been removed from the van but then again I am 6"6'

May I suggest installing a strip of 3mm thick steel underneath in the wheel arch running from the front bolt to the rear ,to spread the load .
There looking good though ,what's it like for leg room in between the steering wheel?
Cheers dazz

I thought about this but couldn't really see the need as they are quite solid. I have some 4mm so I will get a few strips ready just incase and leave them in the van when I go on my hols. That way I can keep checking for any stress issues :)

Leg room wise I find them spot on, not far of original and you can move the seats every which way, they even angle down at the from if you like

Thanks for the post, really helpful!!

I have a couple of seats and am thinking about fitting them, but when I look at my runners I cannot see for the life of me where the spot welds are?!

I don't suppose you have any pictures of the runners in situ and where you drilled out at all? Or alternatively do you have the runners you could snap a quick pic of?

Thanks!
Rob.

If you look very carefully you will see tiny dimples where the spots are.

Make sure you have a good sharp spot weld drill, will save you time welding
