Several places, even ebay. The thing is, you won't know how extensive it is until you remove it and then you may well find the deformation box below is almost as bad. On top of that, getting a grinder in there to clean up the area you need to weld it to is awkward to say the least. I've decided to start with new metal before I swap that panel out.

Its affectionately nicknamed 'the swimming pool' as it does a grand job of collecting water. Not the greatest idea by VW. Its important that both the panel and deformation box are in A1 condition as its all there is between you and no legs.

I haven't got the gear or skills to do this job myself.

A local bodywork shop, with good reputation has quoted me £600 which includes all priming, undercoating, treatment and respray. I supply the panel. He knows that the job can be fiddly and has allowed for a bit of extra work for unforseen problems.

Is this reasonable ?
