I didn't explain it very well, and it wasn't soooo much a 'plan'. . . . . . . more of a 'Make it up as you go !'

I treated that edge and just left it as it was. Now any moisture that might build up on the inside of the body panel can run down, out, and gone. Not seen any rust since. It also acts as a sort of safety feature should you have a gas leak inside. Even if I did choose to close it, I'd just use one of the modern panel adhesives. Just my take anyway. I couldn't see the point of replicating a rust trap. The flow of air seems to keep it all nice and dry.

It really should be closed as it forms part of a box structure and adds strength and rigidity to the side,also gas if any escapes via you drop out holes
