New foam for front seat

Post by Marshmallow »

Hi
Our van still has the original front seats in it which we are going to get recovered but the drivers seat in particular the foam is in a very sorry state, it currently has a bit of bathroom sponge stuffed in it, can you get replacement foam which is shaped in the correct way or will we have to try and buy another seat which we then get recovered?

If your seats are transporter seats ( not caravelle captains seats) I have some new seat base foams in my stores that I acquired some time back to replace the arghes support , but they don't fit my caravelle seats.

Pm me if you are interested!

Forum broke just as I tried to post earlier, so heres second attempt.

Now, I've become quite adept at carving foam with an electric carving knife. I've never tried sculpting a seat base from scratch but should be dooable. Case of buying a chunk and having a go. Certainly if mine are knackered when I recover my captains chairs this year, that will be the way I'll tackle it. Just an idea. Everything will need marking out first, but it should be perfectly possible to shape new foam to match old - correct density obviously. See video below for basic principles:

Basic construction of seat to give you an idea of what you might need to cut to get the shape:

Well we've got an electric carving knife, not sure it would carve a chicken after doing that but maybe worth a shot, we do have a local foam place so may be worth asking them!! :ok

A local upholsterers is doing mine and a few of my mates vans for £500 ish each (depending on spec) for reupholstery of fronts and new 3 piece r+r bed cushions all in vinyl. I see you're not local (!), but if you're ever in Hartlepool let me know and I'll have a word.
If anyone wants to see quality, I'm hoping to get it in to them in time for Big Bang (Santa Pod).
