Fuel Line sizes ?

Post by islandboy »

I have just got a 1987 T25 Caravell Autosleeper DG engine 1910cc. and want to renew the fuel lines as some look suspect.
The wiki gives two possible internal diameters 5.5mm and 7 mm.

I would appreciate any guidance as to which size it could be.

Many thanks

I took the fuel line from the carb to fuel pump off at the fuel pump and it measured 7mm. I presume that will be the size for all the rest ?

It may have been my post in the Wiki - on my 1990 DG all the fuel lines in the engine bay are 5.5mm ID. The hoses I replaced were VAG and marked as that - I think they may have been the originals. The short hose from the tank outlet to the fuel filter is 7mm and from the filter to the hard plastic fuel line that runs along the chassis is 5.5mm. Hope that helps. Important to get quality hose suitable for current unleaded fuels and use proper crimped fuel hose clips. Imperial sized hose of 1/4" or 5/16" size is not a suitable alternative, it should be the exact metric size. Likewise, small ordinary jubilee clamps are not good idea in the engine bay as they can damage the hose - any leaks are too close to the exhaust to take the risk!

Cheers,

Oldjets

OLdjets

Thanks for that.

Went to get some from my local Halfords who were pretty useless.
I asked what the standard was of manufacture, "pretty good" was their comment !!

There's not a lot of choice on the ISland so will have to go on-line

Just gave my van a service and checked the fuel lines I used were in fact 5mm. The 5.5mm wouldn't tighten enough.

Rob has a small unit and can do anything you need. He is very knowledgable about all aspects. He was recommended to me by a mate who runs a bay.
