Engine cutting out

Post by andy409 »

Hi there,
The 1.9 watercooled engine on my 1988 van has started cutting out fairly frequently , seems to start ok but wont idle and when i'm having to put my foot quite a way down on the throttle to keep it running and when running it seems to be a bit on the lumpy side. 'm guessing it could be a number of things but just wondering if anyone has any ideas on what it could be before i pop it into the garage in case there's anything worth trying before hand. The Haynes manual seems to have a variety of possibles but just wondering of anyone on here has any ideas - advice or ideas very much appreciated
Thanks,
Andy

Air Filter? See if it runs with filter removed. Could be clogged and sucking through a straw.

HI

Could try spraying the choke lever mechanism with some lube as it seems thave a habit of sticking, in turn causing the carb to flood. Happened to mine recently and to a couple of other members.

Similar to a problem I had. Vaccum pipe from air filter to bottom of carb had come off. Popped back on. Problem sorted.
Never sure where I'm going till i get there.
