First thing is check for oil in water/ water in oil, then replace hose also replace the blue Dalek head on the header tank these can fail and cause hoses to burst.

Molly60 - put your location in your profile, someone close to you may be able to come and have a look and point you in the right direction.

And yes, if you take the head off, you should use new bolts when replacing it :ok

Had similar recently - overheating then burst pipes. I put a pressure tester on the header tank and found it the engine was pressurising the coolant system = head gasket failure.

The other tell tale sign was when I tried to bleed it using Baxter's method, the coolant would gush out from the header tank with the cap off.

Once the replacement head was on it still overheated - turns out the thermostat was fried. The dalek cap also failed the suck test, and lastly my rad was well sludged up. Sorted those out and now my needle now sits in the middle quite happy at long last...

I'd check for obvious oil contamination as above (check the inside of the oil cap for signs of coolant getting in and frothing up), replace the broken pipe, stick a new thermostat in whilst the coolant is out, flush out the rad, test the dalek cap and then fill up making sure the system's bled properly following Baxter's guide( don't forget heater controls on hot). Keep an eye on the pressure - don't want to burst another pipe..

If that lot fails you could could be looking at the head gasket.
